European beech, steamed and crown cut: a pale pinkish-cream face with a very fine, quiet texture and faint ray fleck. The one to reach for when a job wants a pale, near-neutral timber that stays calm over a large area.
Botanical name: Fagus sylvatica
Beech is diffuse porous, so there are no pore lines and the face is smooth and even rather than open grained, carrying only a faint fine ray fleck. The figure is very quiet, so the crown arches read as soft tonal sweeps rather than the bold cathedral an oak gives. The steaming sets the colour: it gives the pink-cream tone that separates beech from the whiter, more even rock maple. Grown and processed in Europe.
Listed as Beech CC, with Beech Backing also held. Also stocked as edging. Leaves are generally available from 2500 to 3600 mm long. 3600 mm is always in short supply and needs its availability checked before it is specified. Natural timber, so it never repeats and colour and figure vary log to log: match a continuing job to the original order rather than to this page.
