Australian spotted gum, quarter cut: a grey-brown face with a distinctive wavy, interlocked, shimmering figure running down the leaf.
Botanical name: Corymbia maculata
The quarter cut shows the spotted gum's wavering, interlocked grain as bands of shimmer that move as the light does. Colour ranges from pale brown with a grey cast to chocolate. Grown along the east coast of Australia.
Also held as edging. Leaves are generally available from 2500 to 3600 mm long. 3600 mm is always in short supply and needs its availability checked before it is specified. Natural timber, so it never repeats and colour and figure vary log to log: match a continuing job to the original order rather than to this page.
