Australian spotted gum, crown cut: pale to mid brown with a greyish cast and a wavy, interlocked grain that flickers under raking light.
Botanical name: Corymbia maculata
Spotted gum is a favourite Australian hardwood, with colour ranging from pale brown to chocolate and a distinctive wavy figure. The crown cut gives broader arches. Grown along the east coast of Australia.
Also held as edging. Leaves are generally available from 2500 to 3600 mm long. 3600 mm is always in short supply and needs its availability checked before it is specified. Natural timber, so it never repeats and colour and figure vary log to log: match a continuing job to the original order rather than to this page.
