Western Australian jarrah, crown cut: a deep, rich red to purplish red-brown with a smooth, dense face. Unmistakably red when unfinished.
Botanical name: Eucalyptus marginata
Jarrah is a straight to interlocked grained hardwood, sometimes with fiddleback figure, and one of the reddest timbers in the Australian range alongside red gum. The colour deepens with age and finish. Grown in the south-west of Western Australia.
Also held as edging. Leaves are generally available from 2500 to 3600 mm long. 3600 mm is always in short supply and needs its availability checked before it is specified. Natural timber, so it never repeats and colour and figure vary log to log: match a continuing job to the original order rather than to this page.
