Am Oak Crown

$0.00

American white oak, crown cut: bold cathedral arches, coarse open pores and a light golden tan. One of the most commonly specified timbers Ventech holds, and the default answer when a job asks simply for oak.

Botanical name: Quercus alba

Oak is ring porous, so the pores run in distinct lines and the face reads as an open-grained timber rather than a smooth one. The crown cut gives broad arched figure and shows far less of the silver ray fleck that the quarter cut is prized for: fleck is a quarter-cut feature, and its near absence here is the cut doing what it should. Grown in the eastern United States. The redder, more open-pored American red oak is a separate line.

Pressed on G2S, DGB and Bamo backings. Also held as edging. Leaves are generally available from 2500 to 3600 mm long. 3600 mm is always in short supply and needs its availability checked before it is specified. Natural timber, so it never repeats and colour and figure vary log to log: match a continuing job to the original order rather than to this page.
